DAVAL REEL "21" TRADE STIMULATOR, 1936

reel 21 a.jpg - 74370 Bytes It's blackjack, with numbers instead of cards.

The Reel "21" takes any coin from 1c to 25c. The last coin played is displayed in a window on the right side of the machine beneath the operating handle. This nullifies any use of tokens or slugs as the proprietor had to look at the coin to see upon what basis to pay a winner. When the handle is pressed down, the last coin played is raked into the house box and the current game's coin is then displayed.

Coin in and push the handle to spin the "Deal." reels 1 and 2.

The other three reels spin at the same time, only they are shuttered and you do not know their value.

You have two optional "draw" reels, numbered 3 and 4, to enhance your hand. The object is to get 21, or to at least beat the House.

Push the draw 3 window button and it pops open. If you go as far as window four, same action.

If your score is under 21, push the House button to see what you have to beat to win. After pushing the House button, any draw windows which were not opened are locked closed. This, of course, prevents improving the hand after the House value is revealed.

Collect a ball of gum after each play by pressing the button at the lower left of the machine. Each coin purchases a ball of gum, but it must be redeemed after each play or it is forfeited. The circular window to the left of the reels displays the gumballs.

The amount of the winning payout is indicated on the House reel. A blackjack pays 50 and is scored by having a "Blank" on the first reel, a "10" on the second reel, a "11" on the 3rd reel and a "Beat 21" on the House reel. Rather difficult as the odds are 11^4 or 1 in 14,641.

Although winning is difficult, playing Reel "21" is fun. (Card counting techniques do not help here.)
